Pastel artists of all levels are welcome to become members. All members are encouraged to participate, whether attending or presenting, with demonstrations and workshops or volunteering to help with scheduled events. The mission of PSME is to encourage and raise public awareness of the pastel medium, while giving our members an opportunity to exhibit, acquire new skills and to support and share ideas with fellow artists.

NOTE FOR NEW MEMBERS: Membership dues paid before November 1st are applied to the current year membership; dues paid on or after November 1st are applied to the next year membership.

PSME is a fine arts organization with an international outreach. The organization is a 501c3 tax-exempt status and is, therefore, eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions.

  • receive a discount on PSME juried exhibition entry fee

  • apply to be juried into Signature Membership

  • liaison through PSME with the Maine Arts Commission and the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS)

  • other exclusive opportunities

After the renewal deadline, prior members who have not renewed will be dropped from the membership roster.


PSME Signature Member Information

Signature Membership status is an honor awarded to working artists of consistent excellence. These elite artists are required to have fulfilled the Signature Membership Requirements (see application) and have submitted the SIGNATURE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION (click here). Signature Members may use the initials “PSME” after their name and display their work on artwork, publications, and biographies.

The guidelines established in the Pastel Society of Maine Bylaws award points to applicants who gain three (3) points, accrued from the following criteria:

• Acceptance into and exhibit in at least one Pastel Society of Maine Juried Exhibition : 1 PT/each event 

• Acceptance into and exhibit in any international Pastel Juried Show event : 1 PT/each event

• Proof of PSME Membership kept current at least one year while earning status for signature membership, and thereafter continues a current member in good standing.

In order to MAINTAIN Signature Status, you must be current with your membership dues. After one year of non-payment of membership dues, artists will lose their Signature status and must reapply.

The Pastel Society of Maine confers the status of Signature Membership to a PSME member in good standing who furnishes documentation of accomplishment in the following application.
